Andrew Griffiths Australia's No. 1 Business Author & Small Business and Entrepreneurialism Expert
I had heard of Andrew Griffiths, however, not had the chance to see him in action until last month when he came to speak to the Young Chamber subcommittee. I can honestly confirm that Andrew Griffiths is "refreshingly direct and entertaining." Half an hour with the guy seems like five minutes - time flies when you are having fun!!!
Mr Griffiths provided an energetic presentation titled When Great Leaders Go Bad and discussed ten less then desirable leadership attributes:
1. They lack empathy - its really all about them 2. They lack conviction - fence sitters 3. They make change for change sake - ego 4. They fail to inspire - boring 5. They rule by fear - bully
6. They listen to the wrong advisors - stupid 7. They fall for a goat - ruined reputation 8. They lose touch with their customers - lack personal interaction 9. They fail to evolve - dinosaur 10. They have limited vision - blind
Mr Griffiths did add five points at the end about what a good leader would do:
1. Lead by inspiring those around you - an inspired person will self motivate 2. Lead with an equal balance of humility and strength - think of yourself as a good coach 3. Learn from the greatest leaders, the worst leaders and the everyday leaders - take the good, leave the bad 4. Be a global leader - immerse your self in different situations 5. Build an exceptional network - increase you sphere of influence
I was inspired by the presentation, so I checked out Mr Griffiths website http://www.andrewgriffiths.com.au and I really liked the quotes section. My favourite quote was "Our script for life is written in pencil not carved in stone." I would encourage you all to have a look at Mr Griffiths website, if you get the opportunity to read one of his books or go to a presentation even better!
